It is rare nowadays to see the youth enjoying the outdoors with gadgets being the means of entertainment for them. But bring them outside and be amazed at how they are able to find something to be curious about. Something as simple as dipping her hand into the water, wearing her favorite dress and hat, this is a moment she will look back on fondly when she grows up–and we as the viewers have become a part of it in this work by Encinas.
Technique aside, the way Encinas is able to let the soul in the eyes of these three children to shine through from the canvas easily makes this work one of the more outstanding pieces in this exhibition. The sun beaming down on top of their naturally curly hairs gives the subjects in this painting an almost ethereal glow. They are the ones whose minds and hearts are filled with hope and in them, we are reminded of how we were also once hopeful.
